Functions of Public Proxy Servers

Although there are numerous private servers available, public proxy servers still has unique functionalities.

There are millions of users that browse the internet at any time. Depending on the type and size of network, the number of users that can log on to an internet network or website at the same time is limited. During live streaming of a data, it is possible to for the website hosting this data to be hit by more direct requests than it handle simultaneously in real time (this means that too many users log on to the websites at a same time), thereby causing the website to crash and become unavailable to everyone.

Public proxy servers provide a means of distributing traffic in any network as efficiently as possible in real time. This means that instead of too many direct connections to the remote host computer, an acceptable amount of public proxy servers that the host computer can handle connects direct to the host. Each of these proxy servers now serve as the host that users connect to instead, this in effect increases the number of host computers hence is able to accommodate the numerous amounts of hits from users.

Public proxy servers also help in circumventing restrictions to accessing sites of choice. These restrictions are imposed by governments and a host of other private network providers; censor religion, entertainment, images etc. The list is growing by the day and this can really take the fun out of surfing the web. Browsing through proxy servers provide alternate ways to access this sites. This also can be faulty because the network owners add the proxy sites that offer such services and block them. There are numerous list of proxy sites available so the solution to this is to continue searching for newer proxies, chances are that these are not yet added to the constantly updated list.

Proxy servers are essentially firewalls. They prevent the computer from exposure to the numerous threats that abound by hiding the identity of the requesting computer from the host computer. This protects the computer from identity theft or other forms of attack.

The full potential of public proxy servers has not been yet. For this to happen there must be a large number of them available. Private proxy servers are however available in droves because all networks have adopted proxies as intermediaries in order for them to moderate incoming and outgoing traffic.
