While many proxy servers may offer some kind of anonymity, they in fact do not hide the fact that they are proxies.  Put simply, a website can inspect the IP of the proxy server that you are using and detect if it is a proxy IP or not.  So, you may be able to change your IP by using the proxy but any website can detect that the new IP you are using is a proxied IP.  There are many kinds of proxies that fail to mask that they are proxies.  As a result, many websites will simply not allow you to access them as all IPs trying to connect to them are first scanned to see if they are IPs coming from proxy servers.
